FAW: First Aid at Work Refresher Course

This two-day course will update candidates’ key knowledge, sharpen their hands-on ability, and ensure your business stays compliant with HSE requirements.

Who is this course for?

This course is ideal for anyone who currently holds a valid First Aid at Work (FAW) certificate and needs to renew it for another three years. It is especially suited to those working in medium to high-risk environments such as construction, manufacturing, warehousing, or environments with large teams.

Candidates MUST have an in-date FAW certificate or a certificate that has expired within the last 3 months. Any certificates expired for over 3 months can not be used to book onto this refresher course.

Candidates need a basic command of English (Level 2). We can often support learners who speak English as an additional language, but this may be limited depending on group size and time available. Please contact us in advance if special arrangements are needed.

What does this course cover?

You’ll refresh and practise the critical skills required of a qualified first aider, including:

• Roles and responsibilities of a first aider
• Adult resuscitation (CPR)
• Use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
• Managing an unresponsive adult
• Choking (mild and severe)
• Treating minor and severe bleeding
• Shock management
• Burns and scalds
• Bone, muscle, and joint injuries
• Medical emergencies (asthma, allergic reactions, seizures, stroke, low blood sugar)
• Communication and casualty care
• Managing incidents and prioritising casualties

This refresher ensures you’re fully up to date with the latest first aid protocols and best practices.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed through:

• Continuous observation by the trainer
• Practical demonstrations
• Scenario-based activities
• Written assessment

What will I receive after completion?

Successful candidates receive a renewed Highfield First Aid at Work certificate, valid for three years.
